OCEANSIDE, CA — A big rig rollover crash on Interstate 5 prompted a SigAlert early Wednesday, shutting down multiple lanes in both directions and causing major delays near Camp Pendleton.
The crash was reported around 1:45 a.m. on southbound I-5 near the Aliso Creek Rest Area, according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP issued a SigAlert around 4:30 a.m.
Three southbound lanes remained closed Wednesday morning as crews worked to clear the overturned semi truck. The southbound No. 4 lane was open to traffic.
The northbound No. 1 lane was also closed in the area.
Officials estimated the lanes would reopen around noon.
Authorities urged motorists to avoid the area, warning that alternate routes were limited because of the nearby military base and that significant traffic delays were expected throughout the morning.
