CAMP PENDLETON, CA — A brush fire burning on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton prompted an evacuation order Monday for part of the military base, officials said.
The fire, reported at Range 501, was burning in moderate fuels with a moderate rate of spread, according to Camp Pendleton officials. The evacuation order covered the base's 32 Area.
The blaze, dubbed the Pipeline Fire, had grown to more than 150 acres in the southwestern part of Camp Pendleton, according to the nonprofit wildfire information service Watch Duty.
Smoke from the fire was expected to be visible to base residents.
The North County Fire Protection District also issued a smoke advisory. Officials said the fire posed no threat to communities within the district despite visible smoke.
