Pipeline Fire Burns Over 1,000 Acres At Camp Pendleton; Evacuation Order Remains In Place

CAMP PENDLETON, CA — A brush fire burning on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton grew to more than 1,000 acres Tuesday, with an evacuation order still in place for part of the military base.

The Pipeline Fire was estimated at 1,065 acres as of Tuesday morning, according to Cal Fire. The fire started Monday afternoon near Stuart Mesa Road and Hammond Drive.

The blaze prompted evacuation orders for the base's 32 and 33 Areas. The evacuation order for 33 Area was lifted around 8:30 p.m. Monday, but the evacuation order for 32 Area remained in effect Tuesday morning.

The fire reached about 920 acres by 5 p.m. before infrared mapping later estimated the fire at 1,065 acres. Overnight firefighting operations included requested night-flying helicopters, according to Cal Fire.
