1. North County Animal Shelters Waive Adoption Fees Saturday (patch.com) — If you've been thinking about adopting a pet in Oceanside, the San Diego Humane Society is waiving all adoption fees this Saturday, August 29, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Clear the Shelters event spans campuses including Oceanside, where nearly 1,900 animals need homes, and every adopted pet goes home spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated.
   

2. History made at 20th Super Girl Surf Festival: Youngest Super Girl (northcountydailystar.com subscription) — A 14-year-old surfer just made history in Oceanside, becoming the youngest winner of the Super Girl Surf Festival during its 20th anniversary event on August 23. Ruby Stringfellow, from Orange County, battled through top San Clemente competitors to claim the cape and says her win proves young surfers can chase big dreams right here on our local waves.
   

3. Metrolink adds late-night trains for Daisy Chain music festival in Irvine (dailybulletin.com) — Metrolink is adding a special late-night train from Anaheim to Oceanside this Saturday to help Daisy Chain Fields festivalgoers get home without driving. Oceanside riders can use regular weekend fares, including the $10 SoCal Day Pass and free rides for up to three kids per paying adult. The added service aims to ease traffic and expand late-night transit options across the region.
   

4. Sapporo Plans 200 Stone Brewing Layoffs After Selling Brand to Firestone Walker (sfist.com) — Stone Brewing's brand has been sold to Firestone Walker, and parent company Sapporo is planning more than 200 layoffs as it closes Stone's Escondido headquarters. While the deal includes Stone's Oceanside taproom among four hospitality locations, Firestone Walker says it has already hired over 200 former Stone employees and that current layoffs do not affect its own staff.
