The One Mindset Shift That Changed How I Show Up As a Leader

At 57, I understand leadership as something earned over time—through choices, persistence, and a willingness to grow into the person your life is asking you to become.

When I started my first business endeavor, no one told me the most important truth: it’s not what you overcome, but what you become. I thought success would be defined by the obstacles I pushed past. But the real transformation was internal. Every challenge shaped my patience, sharpened my instincts, and strengthened my voice. This determination didn’t just build my business—it built me. I became someone more decisive, more grounded, and more willing to stand in my own authority.

The mindset shift that changed how I show up as a leader was learning to trust myself—fully and unapologetically. For years, I felt the weight of being underestimated. People saw limitations before they saw capability. But leadership required me to stop borrowing other people’s perceptions and start believing in my own. Self-trust became my foundation. I no longer wait for validation to move forward; I move because I know who I am and what I bring. That belief doesn’t make me louder—it makes me clearer, steadier, and far more effective.

Living with Cerebral Palsy has taught me that life is something you create for yourself. It’s built through dreams that stretch you, goals that ground you, and the resilient pursuit of work that matters. Showing up every day isn’t about ease—it’s about intention. Some days require more from me than others, but I’ve learned that consistency, not perfection, is what creates impact.

So I lead from a place of becoming, of self-trust, and of purposeful creation. Leadership, to me, is not about proving anything—it’s about building something meaningful and inviting others to see what’s possible when you do.
