Here are the top four stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. The Cococabana Rooftop Cocktail Bar has opened in downtown Oceanside to rave reviews. After years of watching renovations of The Brick Hotel, locals were delighted to recently celebrate the opening of the Caribbean-style cocktail bar housed on the Brick's 2,100-square-foot rooftop. Cococabana is one of two restaurants from Grind & Prosper Hospitality that will be located inside The Brick Hotel and is the first to open. The ground floor will be the home of the Q & A Restaurant and Oyster Bar, an intimate, New Orleans-style restaurant and oyster bar, named after executive chef Quinnton Austin. (Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
  2. Forty local educators recognized by their school districts as teachers of the year are nominees for San Diego County Teachers of the Year later this month. Five will be named at a special reception on Friday, Aug. 26, as part of the 32nd annual "Cox Presents: Salute to Teachers," sponsored by San Diego County Credit Union. Teachers nominated from Oceanside Unified School District include Rebecca Miceli, Del Rio Elementary and Kristina Vasquez, El Camino High School. (Times of San Diego)
  3. The Oceanside City Council recently approved the rezoning of 25.6 acres along North River Road to add up to 400 homes on land historically used to grow crops such as strawberries and tomatoes. The proposed Tierra Norte development is about three miles west of a larger proposed residential project, also on North River Road, that has sharply divided Oceanside over the conversion of agricultural land to residential uses. (The San Diego Union-Tribune)
  4. Took a break from the news this weekend? Not to worry, we've rounded up some of the stories you missed in SoCal on Saturday and Sunday. As the weekend wraps up, we've rounded up all the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.
But before we jump into Southern California's top stories, Golden State residents should know that a SoCal city voted to pull a proposed resolution from a city council agenda that, if approved, would have sought to ban abortions in the city. (Patch)
