Falling Tree Kills Marine At Camp Pendleton
Lance Cpl. Cody J. Haley of Hardin, Iowa, was pronounced dead at the scene.

CAMP PENDLETON, CA – New details have been released in the accident that killed a U.S. Marine last week at Camp Pendleton. Lance Cpl. Cody J. Haley of Hardin, Iowa, was taking part in routine physical training when a tree fell on him shortly before 9:30 a.m. Friday, according to USMC officials.
Haley was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 20 years old.
"We are heartbroken at the tragic loss of a member of the Marine Corps family, and we will do all we can to comfort the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased," base officials said in a statement.

Haley, who was assigned to the 1st Marine Division, deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit in March 2016. His service awards include a National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
