Gang Member Sentenced In Fatal Oceanside Park Beating

VISTA, CA -- A documented gang member who took part in the beating death of a man in an Oceanside park was sentenced Friday to 16 years in state prison.

Christopher Augafa, 26, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

Police said Augafa and 27-year-old gang member David Ioane were part of a group that beat 24-year-old Mustafa Gordon to death at Buddy Todd Park. A man walking his dog found Gordon's battered body about 5:45 a.m. on Feb. 16, 2015.

Ioane -- who has a 2009 conviction for robbery -- also pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Gordon's death and will be sentenced to 37 years in prison on June 9.

Deputy District Attorney Robert Bruce said the investigation is continuing and Oceanside police are pursuing other individuals suspected of being involved in Gordon's murder and the cover-up of the crime.
