Man Lying On Railroad Tracks Killed By Train In Oceanside

Officials said the train hit its emergency brakes but still struck the man as he remained on the tracks.

OCEANSIDE, CA – A man lying on railroad tracks was killed Tuesday when he was struck by an oncoming train in Oceanside, police said.

The North Coastal Sheriff's Transit Enforcement Unit responded shortly after 7 p.m. to the scene of the collision on the railroad tracks near Cassidy and Broadway streets, according to sheriff's Deputy Brian Abraham.

A southbound Amtrak train was traveling about 55 mph when the engineer observed the man lying on the railroad tracks, Abraham said.

The train hit its emergency brakes but still struck the man as he remained on the tracks, Abraham said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
