New Burger Competition Comes to Town; Take Our Best Burger Poll

Denver-based Smashburger, which promotes a "better burger" restaurant concept, plans to open an Oceanside shop on Oct. 20, joining the many other local eateries offering America's favorite fast food.

The 3460 Marron Rd. location is one of 85 new shops the chain expects to open this year, according to Smashburger's website. The company is owned by a private equity firm, Consumer Capital Partners, which developed Smashburger's 120 franchised and corporate restaurants.

Smashburger gets its name from Angus beef patties "smashed on a flat grill to sear in the juicy flavor," the company describes in a release on the upcoming opening. Among the items on the menu: a San Diego Smashburger that includes avocado, cilantro, pepper jack cheese, sour cream and chipotle mayo on a torta roll.
