🌱 Oceanside Arson Suspect Arrested + Levin Leads GOP In Fundraising

Here are the top five stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:
- The latest fundraising numbers for North County San Diego candidates seeking state and congressional office were released in April showing most, but not all, incumbents leading their challengers after the first reporting period. In the 49th Congressional District, which spans the coastline from San Juan Capistrano to Del Mar, incumbent Rep. Mike Levin significantly outraised all of his Republican challengers during the first quarter of 2022, raising $615,000. Levin has received $2,536,928 in total so far during the race, per FEC filings. (Coast News)
- Rogelio Ramirez, 22, was booked into county jail on suspicion of intentionally sparking six fires in Vista and Oceanside. After being questioned by detectives, Ramirez was booked into county jail on suspicion of intentionally setting fires that broke out on Thursday, sheriff's Sgt. Anthony Portillo said. None of the fires caused any reported injuries or structural damage. (Carlsbad Patch)
- Pete Mayfield, 98, sat in a wheelchair at the base of the Iwo Jima memorial in Arlington, Virginia, wearing his red U.S. Marine Corps jacket. He had never before seen the iconic 78-foot-tall bronze statue depicting American GIs raising the U.S. flag atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in the final stages of World War II. - Oceanside's Craft Beer Scene is making waves with breweries such as Bagby and Tipping Point putting the North County city on the map. Oceanside has established a community of breweries that enthusiasts had always hoped for. That list includes Northern Pine Brewing in 2017, Kilowatt Brewing in 2019, Craft Coast in 2020, and, last year, South O Brewing Company. "Folks in Oceanside know great beer and love to have a good time," she says. "Anyone coming here to open up should be prepared to deliver on all accounts." (San Diego Magazine)
- Amazon plans to create 2,500 corporate and technical jobs in Southern California, including hundreds of new jobs in San Diego, the company announced Tuesday. Amazon plans to expand its Tech Hubs in San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles counties, adding more than 700 jobs in San Diego, more than 800 jobs in Irvine, and more than 1,000 jobs in Santa Monica. "These 2,500 new jobs include roles building cloud infrastructure, improving the Alexa experience, and designing cutting edge video games," said Holly Sullivan, Amazon's vice president of worldwide economic development.
