Oceanside Chamber presents Operation Appreciation at the Oceanside Pier Amphitheater on May 21! A day of fun and recognition for all active-duty military and their families as they are treated to a day of free food, entertainment and a fun zone for kids. This event is open to the public, with food and fun zone tickets available for purchase from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. More info
Here are the top five stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:
- The San Diego Registrar of Voters is reminding voters they can vote early. More than 1.9 million ballots for the June 7 primary election were sent out to registered voters last week, according to the Registrar of Voters office. As ballots arrive in mailboxes, voters can vote early by mailing or dropping off completed ballots at ballot drop box locations across San Diego County. (San Diego Patch)
- After decades of work as trial lawyers, mother-daughter attorneys Barbara McDonald and Christine Alford decided to pursue their artistic passions full time and open an art gallery in downtown Oceanside. The duo's Luna Grace Photography Studio and Art Gallery opened in late April at Ocean Place Cinema complex, 409 Mission Ave., at the former site of the Oceanside Police Community Resource Center. - Have a whale of a time: Whale watching season returns to San Diego. Enjoy seeing the cetaceans in their natural habitat at Oceanside Adventures, a luxury whale and dolphin watching company located in front of the historic Lighthouse in Oceanside Harbor.
Captain Chris Fairbanks of Oceanside Adventures joined KUSI's Ginger Jeffries on "Good Evening San Diego" to discuss how you can watch these majestic creatures. - (KUSI) - San Diego Gas & Electric filed a rate request with the California Public Utilities Commission on Tuesday seeking an increase that would average $9 a month for electricity and $9.60 for natural gas effective Jan. 1, 2024. The utility's filing includes a four-year capital investment plan focused on expanding the power grid while increasing the supply of clean energy. (Times of San Diego)
- A man was found dead in a truck Tuesday evening in Encinitas. Authorities responded just before 9:05 p.m. to the area of Villa Cardiff Drive and Birmingham Drive, near Interstate 5, after receiving a call from a person who said they found their uncle "possibly asleep" inside a locked Ford Ranger pickup truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.
