Oceanside City Council Rejects Construction Of Amazon Facility
At Wednesday's meeting the Oceanside City Council unanimously voted against allowing the construction of an Amazon distribution facility.

OCEANSIDE, CA — In May, the Oceanside Planning Commission approved a 142,746 square foot Amazon warehouse distribution facility with fleet vehicle parking for a package delivery service located on Ocean Ranch Blvd. But after 3 appeals and hours of public comment, the Oceanside City Council on Wednesday unanimously voted against allowing the construction of a large Amazon facility, citing noise, traffic and air quality concerns.
“I am not convinced by the changes at all,” Mayor Esther Sanchez said. “I believe it severely understates the impacts to this community.”
The proposal included plans for up to 15 truck terminals that would operate as a 24-hour package delivery site. During the meeting, several council members stated that there were inconsistencies in the project’s application process and that the industrial area was only approved for facilities up to 50,000 square feet and 6 large trucks.

The appeals brought against the project were granted by the council despite proponents of the facility arguing that the area was always intended to be industrial and the project would add up to 300 construction jobs.
