State officials are scrambling to expand testing, vaccinations and garner more information about the monkeypox virus.   2. The Oceanside Community Foundation will hold its 2022 Grants Celebration at El Corazon on August 30 to officially award $92K to this year's seven fund recipients. The OCF supports local organizations that range from well-known groups like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside to lesser-known causes like the Autism Tree Project.   3. One of the last remaining Navajo Code Talkers from World War II has died at 98. Samuel Sandoval received his advanced training at Camp Pendleton near Oceanside. He was among the first 29 Code Talkers, recruited by the United States Marines in 1942. They were responsible for helping develop the unbreakable code used across the Pacific during World War II.   5. The number of people hospitalized with a coronavirus infection in San Diego County increased by two to 438, according to data released by the state Saturday. ICU patients with COVID as of Saturday increased by four to 49. There were five more hospital beds available Saturday, totaling 229. Meanwhile, San Diego County residents will be able to get the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine this weekend, the county Health and Human Services Agency announced. (Times of San Diego)
