Here are the top stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:
- The Oceanside City Council meeting agenda for Wednesday has Downtown Zoning Ordinance and Redrawing of City Council Districts among the 29 items. Other items of note include Oceanside Harbor Dredging and the Brooks Street Swim Center. (Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day events throughout the county including three in Oceanside.
MLK Community Prayer Breakfast: The North San Diego County NAACP's annual event is set for 9 a.m. Jan. 17 at the Oceanside El Corazon Senior Center.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service: 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 15 at various sites around North County. Volunteers meet at 8 a.m. that day at MiraCosta College, 1 Barnard Drive.
MLK Day of Service and story stroll: In partnership with MiraCosta College, the library bus, Adelante, will offer story stroll, games, snacks and crafts from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 15 at John Landes Community Center and Park, 2855 Cedar Road. (The San Diego Union-Tribune) - Oceanside and Chula Vista are some of the most fun cities in the country, according to a report from WalletHub. The report compared more than 180 cities, including 150 of the most populated cities, across the country to determine which are the most fun, and while San Diego obviously made it to the list, a couple of smaller cities in San Diego County were featured. - Ocean's 11 Casino, the largest poker operation in San Diego and Riverside counties, celebrates its 25th anniversary. A ceremonial moment with special guests and Ocean's 11 longtime partner and gaming industry veteran Haig Kelegian Sr. (aka "King of Clubs") will take place on Saturday, January 29th at 1pm. - Former Camp Pendleton Marine Zachary Stangle was named as a 2022 Big Brother of the Year finalist for Big Brothers of Orange County. Sloane Keane, CEO of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Orange County and the Inland Empire, explained in the Jan. 6 press release that finalists were recognized for helping to empower their littles and "ignite their inherent potential so they can navigate difficult situations and thrive."
