Here are the top five stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:
- A lawsuit against Oceanside City Councilman Christopher Rodriguez will go to a jury trial in October after the 49th Congressional District candidate was accused of failing to repay nearly $500,000 in loans to a former business partner. Brian Maryott, one of Rodriguez's opponents in the Republican primary, seized on the news of the lawsuit. "Chris Rodriguez must come clean about his legal issues. It is not normal to get repeatedly sued for fraud and deception by investors who have to sue because they believe they were swindled out of their retirement savings," Maryott said in a statement. - Following a two-year hiatus, the San Diego County Fair is back in full swing this summer. The fair opened Wednesday and will run through July 4 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The fair will feature rides, concerts, exhibits, animals and of course, fair food and drinks. The fair will run 21 days at the Del Mar Fairgrounds at 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd. It will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays in June. Fair admission and parking must be purchased in advance online for a particular date. (San Diego Patch)
- Four people reportedly died Wednesday afternoon when a Marine Corps aircraft crashed in Imperial County. The aircraft belonging to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing crashed near Glamis, California, the Naval Air Facility El Centro wrote in a Facebook post. Glamis is about 120 miles east of San Diego. The center said around 1:30 p.m. that it received reports of a downed aircraft near Coachella Canal Road and Highway 78. (San Diego Patch)
- A group of cyclists is taking action to help bring light to mental health issues and to raise support for anyone suffering from addiction issues. The group is riding a total of 600 miles starting from San Jose and going all the way to Oceanside. The group rode through Tulare last weekend and should make it to Oceanside by next Sunday. - Oceanside's Bagby Beer Co. gets rave reviews at the 2022 Firestone Walker Invitational Beer Festival. The Bagby Zippy Trip beer is an Imperial Porter with ABV: 9.5%. According to Inside Hook, it's an excellent imperial porter brewed with coffee, and in addition to some chocolatey notes, that coffee flavor comes through loud and clear. Despite being one of the heaviest beers I tried all day, it perked me up, and it paired perfectly with the mac-and-cheese from a nearby food vendor that I inhaled with it. (InsideHook)
