Here are the top five stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:
- CHP reported that at least one person was killed in a vehicle crash Saturday morning on state Route 78 in Oceanside. The crash occurred about 6:45 a.m. on the eastbound highway, at Jefferson Street, according to the California Highway Patrol. It was not known whether the fatality died at the scene or at a hospital. (Times of San Diego)
- Oceanside residents may hear booming noises as Marines participate in live-fire training July 30-Aug 7, according to a Camp Pendleton noise advisory. Marines on Camp Pendleton will train with high explosives for 24/7 field artillery exercises. Explosions may be heard as far as 50 miles away. Residents can expect to hear loud ammunition noises anytime between 6 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. as Marines fire high explosive ammunitions into the Whiskey/Zulu impact area, roughly seven miles from Oceanside. - A 20-year-old man was shot multiple times while sitting in his vehicle waiting to make a drug transaction in the Azalea/Hollywood Park neighborhood, the San Diego Police Department said Saturday. The victim told police that at 6:49 p.m. Friday he drove to the 2300 block of Sumac Drive to meet with someone to sell them drugs, SDPD Officer Robert Heims said. A man in his 20s walked up to the victim sitting in his car and during the drug deal the suspect tried to steal the items the victim was selling, the officer said. (San Diego Patch)
