The Oceanside First Friday Art Walk will celebrate the beginning of the summer season on Friday, June 2nd in downtown Oceanside featuring a special guest.

“Oceanside is the site of the longest wooden pier on the west coast whose beginnings date back to 1888, said Susan Brown, president of the Oceanside Friends of the Arts. Also, one of the most well-known attractions for summer visitors to the pier is “Charlie the Pelican”, who is often perched just outside the bait shop on the pier. Visitors come from near and far away to see and even feed Charlie and we thought it would be appropriate to honor him as the Oceanside mascot during our June Art Walk event.” A small, stuffed pelican memento with a “Welcome to Oceanside” inscription will be available at various locations during the Art Walk for purchase.

The Oceanside Art Walk has seen a steady increase in the number of participating artists and venues for its monthly event since it re-started in March under the new direction of the Oceanside Friends of the Arts. “We had 22 venues in May with dozens of artists who displayed pop-up art, jewelry, sculpture, ceramic, glass, photography and paintings amongst a backdrop of live music performances and culinary samples and this number continues to grow,” says Brown. In addition to the many forms of art on display at the Art Walk, the June event will also feature live music from local musicians and bands. Back by popular demand will be the Imperial Valley College Pop Band from Imperial, California under the direction of Brandilyn Davidson, singer and multi-instrumentalist. The IVC Pop Band performs top 40 cover songs from the 70’s to now and features a horn section with saxophones, trumpets and trombones. “The IVC Pop Band was a new addition to our May Art Walk and was so popular we asked them to return again for the June Art Walk, says Brown.”

The Art Walk will once again feature a collaborative artist participation painting on the canvas inside the Muramid Art Museum where anyone, young or old can participate with local artists to create a unique mural. “This has been especially popular with the children and budding artists who have attended previous Art Walks, says Brown.”

The Muramid Mural Museum and Art Center located at 212 F North Coast Highway in Oceanside will also be participating in Philippine Heritage month with Fil-Am “Arts Alive” artists and music featuring the PCH Band.

VIP bracelets for Art Walk guests can be picked up at Oceanside Artist Alley and Century 21 at the corner of Mission and Coast Highway. These bracelets entitle the guests to coupons and discounts from participating venues/artists.

The Oceanside Friends of the Arts, a Non-Profit 501c3 Foundation, was established in 2016 with the goal of promoting Oceanside and surrounding communities as an important arts, culture, entertainment and tourism hub/destination that catalyzes economic prosperity and a high quality of life for Oceanside’s future. Fundraising proceeds will go to support First Friday Art Walk and scholarships for high school graduates to further their art education.
