Oceanside Harbor Dredging And Beach Sand Update

OCEANSIDE, CA — The City of Oceanside released a Harbor Dredging and Beach Sand Update on the progress of the Oceanside Harbor dredge that began on April 5th.

As of May 5, Manson Construction has dredged 215,000 cubic yards of sand. The current outfall discharge pipe is located just north of Surfrider Way. Due to recent Grunion runs on the beach, all remaining dredged sand will be deposited at that location. The Army Corps of Engineers has approved a total of 305,000 cubic yards to be removed from the Harbor entrance with an additional 90,000 cubic yards still to be dredged.

Weather delays due to south swells have caused a disruption in the work and the estimated completion date is May 19. Please use caution at the beach while this project is underway.

Other sand replenishment efforts from the City of Oceanside

The Oceanside Public Works Department initiated a feasibility study seeking to develop a strategy to protect City beaches from the impacts of long-term shoreline erosion. The goal of the study is to identify a beach replenishment/retention strategy that is environmentally sensitive, financially feasible and has a reasonable chance of being approved through the regulatory permitting process. A public workshop was held and poll was taken on September 15, 2020 on these strategies.

Another public workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. to discuss the options and steps to move forward.
