State ownership limits Carlsbad's control over beach maintenance (thecoastnews.com) — Carlsbad officials explain that only about one mile of beach, ending at the Oceanside border, is under city control, limiting what they can do about erosion, rock formations, and a shabby state-owned sign. For Oceanside-area beachgoers, it clarifies which stretches are managed by the city versus California State Parks and why some visible problems near the border haven't been fixed quickly.
