1. The annual Oceanside harbor dredging has started and city officials are reminding people to steer clear of the heavy machinery on the beach. "It’s an event where sand from the harbor’s mouth is used to replenish the city’s beaches. Residents welcome this project every year, said Oceanside Lifeguard Capt. Bill Curtis. "It's to maintain the harbor entrance, to maintain, keep it open," he said. "So the Army Corps and the Navy cooperate together to keep that happening. And then, with cooperation, they then place it back on our beach rather than discharging it back out into the ocean." (KPBS)
2. Oceanside Library cardholders can check out free passes to visit over 200 California state parks, lakes, beaches and monuments. The California State Library Parks Pass is valid for entry of one passenger vehicle with a capacity of nine people or less or one highway licensed motorcycle. 3. What's coming to replace Ruby's Diner at the end of Oceanside Pier? Oceanside’s CLTVT recently shared an interesting teaser, building up suspense on their latest hometown project. The construction and design firm shared that an announcement is forthcoming for what will replace Ruby’s Diner. The team from CLTVT is keeping details close for now as they continue to work on projects like the Freeman Collective. Their teaser only alludes to the new concept will serve fresh seafood. 4. A Sylmar man will be sentenced to at least two decades in federal prison after he pleaded guilty on Friday to selling counterfeit oxycodone pills to a U.S. Marine at Camp Pendleton, who later died of an overdose, the U.S. Department of Justice announced. Gustavo Jaciel Solis, 25, an active-duty Marine at Camp Pendleton, and two others were charged in 2020 with “being part of a ring that distributed narcotics to civilians and members of the United States Marine Corps” using Snapchat and the United States Postal Service, the release said. 5. California man gets life for murdering his family, leaving them wrapped in plastic. Investigators tracked down surveillance footage from a Home Depot in Oceanside, California, where they saw Pierre Haobsh purchasing the plastic sheeting and duct tape used at the crime scene. (SF Gate)
