Here are the top stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:
- Coastal sand erosion is a big problem in Oceanside, with the potential loss of beaches devastating to the local economy and our way of life. The solution is to obtain a "high-quality source of sand, coupled with a beach nourishment program." Sounds simple, right? Yet after nearly 20 years of studies, no permanent fix has been put in place. Now, the city of Oceanside has a unique approach: a design competition. (Coast News)
- The Oceanside International Film Festival is back for its 12th annual event at the Sunshine Brooks Theatre in downtown Oceanside, from February 21-25. The 2023 film schedule kicks off with a red carpet reception and the world premiere of the moving documentary, "I Am Alright," directed by Krista Liney and featuring San Diego music legends, The Silent Comedy. Tickets went on sale this week and the opening night is expected to sell out fast. Check out the full film schedule and buy tickets at osidefilm.org. (Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
- Oceanside police are investigating a single-car crash that left two people dead and four hurt on Tuesday evening. The 30-year-old female driver and a 6-year-old child were both killed, while two of the four other passengers were critically injured and had to be airlifted to a local hospital. "Identities are being withheld pending notification of family." Investigators are asking for the public's help with any information about the crash, which occurred on Douglas Drive near Pala Road around 8 PM. (Patch)
