📢 The Oceanside Chamber will hold its 14th Annual North County Health & Wellness Fair on August 11 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. The North County Health Fair is free to the public and a great way to receive information, meet a new health specialist or learn more about healthy living. Here are the top four stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:
- U.S. Rep. Mike Levin (D-CA) joined Oceanside Police Chief Fred Armijo, Captain Sean Marchand, Mayor Esther Sanchez and others on Monday to discuss federal funding for the Oceanside Police Department to purchase vehicle cameras. Rep. Levin secured $587,000 in Fiscal Year 2022 appropriations legislation for the Oceanside Police Department to purchase vehicle cameras, including dash cams facing out the front windshield of the police vehicles as well as cameras for monitoring the back seat of the vehicles. - The Oceanside treasurer is being investigated for alleged ethics violations. The city manager’s office is investigating recent allegations against Treasurer Victor Roy, including claims the elected official viewed nude images on a computer at a municipal library and solicited campaign donations from city staff. (Coast News)
- Did you feel it? A 3.3 magnitude earthquake struck Wednesday morning near Borrego Springs in San Diego County. The quake was recorded at 9:01 a.m. more than four miles north-northeast of Borrego Springs, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake had a depth of roughly seven miles. People in Borrego Springs, Escondido, Ramona and San Diego reported feeling the quake, according to the USGS. (San Diego Patch)
- San Diego lifeguards pulled a body from Sunset Cliffs on Wednesday and authorities are investigating the incident that occurred around 5:30 a.m., when lifeguards responded to reports of a body found in the 1200 block of Sunset Cliffs Boulevard, Fox 5 reported. A San Diego County medical examiner was called to the scene. (San Diego Patch)
