- The Oceanside Police Department's Random Acts of Kindness project is aimed at spreading a little kindness around the city of Oceanside. - Coastal cities push for a regional sand project like the one that widened San Diego County beaches a decade ago. The previous effort, completed in 2012 at a cost of $28.5 million, required nearly a decade of planning and the coordinated work of local, state and federal agencies, according to members of the Shoreline Preservation Working Group, an advisory arm of the San Diego Association of Governments. Still, some of the restored beaches were swept clean to the rocks in just a few years. (Del Mar Times)
- Workers at grocery chains across Southern California including Ralphs and Vons, Pavilions, and Albertsons voted to authorize a strike, union officials confirmed Sunday morning. The vote comes with both sides slated to resume negotiating this week. The vote doesn't guarantee a walkout, but it ups the stakes as union representatives and store owners attempt to iron out a new labor contract weeks after the current contract expired. (San Diego Patch)
- Homicide detectives in San Diego were investigating the stabbing death of a man found bleeding in the passenger seat of a car pulled over for a traffic stop. The discovery was made about 3:45 p.m. when patrol officers from the Mid-City Division stopped a red Ford Focus near the intersection of El Cajon Boulevard and Texas Street for infractions including speeding, according to San Diego police Lt. Jud Campbell. (San Diego Patch)
