Here are the top five stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. The Oceanside City Council at its June 8 meeting approved an agreement with NV5, a technical engineering and consulting firm. It is set to pay nearly $6.7 million for consulting services for a project to replace several wastewater pipelines and build a new sewer lift station. NV5 is to provide city staff with technical and control support throughout the project's design phase, management and inspection services during the construction phase, and public outreach. (Coast News)
  2. Thunderbird Analog Recording Studio in Oceanside, an old-fashioned studio, held an open house Sunday to try to save the studio. A recent rent spike is forcing owner, musician, and engineer Thomas Yearsley to look for a new home for his studio. "Our last party will be here Friday with (musician) Sue Palmer," Yearsley said during an open house event Sunday. "It should be pretty big. Then I've got about a dozen or so tracking sessions, and in between I'll just be breaking everything down and trying to find a place to put it." (The San Diego Union-Tribune)
  3. A dog was rescued from the gorilla enclosure at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in northern San Diego County. Two dogs were loose inside the park in Escondido when one of the pups jumped into the gorilla exhibit around 4 p.m. Sunday, park officials said in a statement sent to Patch. A video on social media showed a gorilla chasing the dog in the habitat. The male shepherd has no microchip, said Humane Society spokesperson Nina Thompson. Humane Society staff named him "Mighty Joe Young." (San Diego Patch)
  4. A wildfire prompted rescues, threatened infrastructure and scorched hundreds of acres Monday in southern San Diego County. The blaze, called the Border 13 Fire, sparked shortly before 1 p.m. east of Marron Valley, near Border Road and just north of the U.S.-Mexico border in the Barrett Junction area, according to Cal Fire. Within two hours, the flames spread over 350 acres and remained 0 percent contained. Multiple people were rescued from the area, Cal Fire officials said. (San Diego Patch)
  5. A 17-day streak of increases to the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County ended Monday when it dropped two-tenths of a cent to $6.363. The average price rose 34.7 cents during the streak, including four-tenths of a cent Sunday, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. Records were set each of the past 16 days. The average price is 10.2 cents higher than one week ago, 49.2 cents more than one month ago and $2.146 greater than one year ago. (City News Service)
