Wildfire Burns Hundreds Of Acres North Of U.S.-Mexico Border

SAN DIEGO, CA — A wildfire prompted rescues, threatened infrastructure and scorched hundreds of acres Monday in southern San Diego County.

The blaze, called the Border 13 Fire, sparked shortly before 1 p.m. east of Marron Valley, near Border Road and just north of the U.S.-Mexico border in the Barrett Junction area, according to Cal Fire. Within two hours, the flames spread over 350 acres and remained 0 percent contained. By 4:30 p.m., the fire had burned 577 acres.

Multiple people were rescued from the area, Cal Fire officials said. The fire also threatened infrastructure on Tecate Peak, but no evacuation orders or warnings were issued.

The fire burned near the site of the Barrett Fire that has blackened about 65 acres. That fire sparked Sunday evening and was 25 percent contained as of Monday morning.
