Oceanside Rent Relief And Eviction Protections Still Available
Oceanside area low-income tenants can get past-due rent paid as part of the $5.2 billion California rent relief program.
OCEANSIDE, CA — Oceanside residents who have been financially impacted by COVID-19 and are behind on rent or utility payments can still get help.
Under a new state law California renters, who are still struggling to pay the rent, will be shielded from eviction through September 30.
The agreement also allocates up to $5.2 billion to pay all back rent and rent going forward for low-income tenants impacted by COVID-19. Previously, eligible applicants could only receive 80% of past-due rent and landlords had to agree to waive the rest.

State officials hope that erasing all rental debt will increase the number of applications and the amount of money going out the door.
This comes after news organizations across the state reported low participation rates for rental and utility assistance programs, which left millions of dollars unspent.

California has been trying to get eligible tenants to apply for its federally-funded rent relief programs for months — with limited success. Standing in the way: A lack of technological know-how, language barriers, a confusing application process and simple disbelief.
