Oceanside South Morro Hills Community Plan Workshop - Mar 16
The Oceanside Planning Division will host a public workshop for the South Morro Hills Community Plan Design on Weds, March 16 at 6:00 p.m.

OCEANSIDE, CA — The Oceanside Planning Division will host a public workshop for the South Morro Hills Community Plan (SMHCP) on Wednesday, March 16 at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
South Morro Hills is among Oceanside's last remaining farming regions and includes over 3,500 acres in the northeast area near Fallbrook. Many residents want the land preserved solely for agricultural purposes while housing advocates propose allowing for "clusters" of housing developments.
The SMHCP is an extension of Oceanside’s General Plan Update currently underway, and includes goals and policies to guide future land use and development within the South Morro Hills area.

The SMHCP seeks to preserve farmland by accommodating agritourism and housing while preserving agricultural resources and facilitating the long-term viability of farming operations. The draft policy framework for the SMHCP was first introduced to the Planning Commission and City Council as workshop discussion items in Spring 2021.
As the next phase of public outreach, this design-based workshop will focus on obtaining community input for the preparation of the SMHCP, and “brainstorming” site planning and design strategies for farmland conservation.

The grass-roots organization, Preserve Calavera supports keeping natural open space in coastal North County. The group opposes the current draft SMHCP in favor of a more farmland preservation plan approach.
The South Morro Hills Community Plan (SMHCP) public workshop is Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 300 N. Coast Highway. Virtual attendance will also be available via Zoom.
