Here are the top stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. Oceanside police identified Tuesday's stabbing victim as 16-year-old Justin Ferguson. "On Tuesday, October 18, Oceanside Police responded to the call of a stabbing incident in a parking lot at Mesa Drive and Cinnamon Way and located a male juvenile victim who later died at the hospital. The victim has been identified as 16-year-old Justin Ferguson of Oceanside. On Wednesday, October 19, investigators identified and arrested a male juvenile suspect wanted in connection to the murder, the Oceanside Police Department said in a statement." (Patch)
  2. Heads up, Oceanside! You may need alternate travel plans this weekend. "There will be no COASTER service in San Diego County this weekend on Saturday and Sunday to facilitate regular maintenance and infrastructure improvements along the coastal rail corridor. No replacement bus service connecting COASTER stations will be available. Alternatives for some COASTER passengers may include BREEZE Route 101 or MTS connections." (North County Transit District)
  3. San Diego County encourages voters to take advantage of voting by mail in the upcoming election. "As ballots start showing up in mailboxes around San Diego County, the Registrar of Voters office is encouraging voters to vote early. More than 1.9 million ballots for the Nov. 8 Statewide General Election were sent out to registered voters last week. If you haven't received yours by Oct. 17, contact the Registrar's office. "San Diego County voters have more days and more ways to vote," said Registrar of Voters Cynthia Paes. "You don't need to wait until Election Day to vote. The sooner we get your ballot back, the sooner we can start processing it. Your ballot can be in the first release of election night results." (Press Release Desk)
  4. Locals aren't in favor of the new Fire Mountain development plans but city officials say we need the housing. "The Oceanside Planning Commission on Oct. 10 approved the development of Ocean Creek, a residential project with apartments ranging from studio to three bedrooms and 30 dwelling units reserved for affordable housing. The project will be developed on a 13-acre grading pad, leaving the remaining six acres primarily open space with some frontage area. According to staff, the project meets many goals the city has already established for future development. But many residents remain concerned that Ocean Creek will change the community's character and worsen existing issues with local traffic." (Coast News)
