- What are California's most deadly occupations? The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics compiled detailed statistics on how California workers died on the job in 2020. Even in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic, professional drivers face the highest risk of dying on the job, according to a 2020 joint report from the California Division of Occupational and Safety Health. (San Diego Patch)
- No rent hike for residents in 9 of 17 Oceanside mobile home parks that did not pass health and safety inspections are not allowed to raise rents. An Oceanside city commission voted Thursday not to raise rents in nine of 17 mobile home parks, which are regulated under rent control. The Manufactured Home Fair Practices Commission said the rents could not be raised in parks that had not passed health and safety inspections, according a resident who attended the meeting. (CBS News 8)
- An Oceanside man pleaded guilty to a manslaughter charge in connection to a shooting that killed a 34-year-old man in November, after initially pleading not guilty to murder. Daniel Birdsell, 21, was located by Oceanside Police and arrested on suspicion of the shooting death of Jordan Savard according to Sgt. Sergio Arias. (Santa Maria Times)
- Here's where temperature records were broken in San Diego County on Thursday and Friday. As temperatures continued to soar into the 90s along the coast and even higher inland for both Thursday and Friday, several cities in San Diego continued to break records. In Carlsbad and Oceanside, high temperatures were nearly 20 degrees above previous records. On Thursday, Oceanside saw a record temp of 98 degrees, surpassing its previous record of 81 set in 2010, and on Friday, it saw a record temperature of 102 breaking its 1989 record of 95 degrees.. - A 27-year-old man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of attempted murder and other charges after he allegedly broke into the home of his ex-girlfriend and slashed her neck with a kitchen knife, sheriff's officials said. Juan Juarez arrived unannounced to his ex-girlfriend's residence near North Citrus Avenue and Nevada Avenue at 5:50 a.m. Saturday, according to Sgt. S. Payman of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. "As deputies arrived, Juarez grabbed a 12-inch kitchen knife, held it to his ex-girlfriend's neck, and told her he was going to kill her, Payman said. (Times of San Diego)
