1. First major transit fare hike since 2009 takes effect (thecoastnews.com) — Transit riders in Oceanside will pay more starting immediately, as MTS and NCTD monthly passes and Coaster fares rise for the first time since 2009. A new Pronto Life low-income program aims to soften the blow for qualifying residents, letting many Oceanside commuters keep reduced fares while the region raises prices to avoid cutting bus and train service.
   

2. Celebrate Clean Air Day and Ride Free with NCTD - North County Transit District (gonctd.com) — Oceanside riders can hop on COASTER, SPRINTER, BREEZE, FLEX and NCTD+ for free this Wednesday, October 7, as NCTD marks California's Clean Air Day. The all-day promotion, which doesn't require a PRONTO card or fare, is meant to encourage residents to try transit, cut gas costs, and help reduce air pollution across North County.
   

3. Alleged white supremacists charged in racist assaults at Oceanside Pier (10news.com) — Federal prosecutors have charged two men and secured a guilty plea from a third in alleged racially motivated assaults on three people, including two Marines, at Oceanside Pier in June 2025. Authorities say the victims suffered serious head injuries after being punched, kicked, and stomped, and the defendants now face federal hate crime counts and accusations of lying to investigators.
   

4. Retired contractor traces mounting claims against 'King of ADUs' (thecoastnews.com) — An Oceanside investor and other locals are suing a San Diego developer, alleging they were sold stakes in an Oceanside property the company didn't own and other troubled projects. The investigation traces dozens of lawsuits, unpaid contractors, and hundreds of millions in loans tied to large ADU developments across San Diego County, raising concerns for Oceanside residents considering similar investments.
