Prescribed Burns On Camp Pendleton Planned To Start Today
Camp Pendleton Fire Department prescribed burns will produce smoke visible in the area over the coming weeks.

OCEANSIDE, CA — The Camp Pendleton Fire Department announced plans for prescribed burns on base that will produce smoke visible beginning May 14.
This Thursday and Friday, Camp Pendleton Fire Department will be conducting prescribed burns on the Alpha Shelf for hazard mitigation. Prescribed burns will also be conducted from 22-23 May, 30 May, and 3-4 June on various strategic locations throughout the base.
This Thursday and Friday, CPFD will be conducting prescribed burns on the Alpha Shelf for hazard mitigation. Smoke will be visible.

From 7-11 June, the Fire School, which serves a dual purpose of training firefighters and conducting prescription burns, will also produce smoke. Fire School brings in CAL FIRE and other community fire departments to train to fight wildland fires and is an annual event held in preparation for the drier, warmer season ahead.

The Camp Pendleton Fire Department conducts prescribed burns to clear out dense vegetation and to protect endangered wildlife and increase the habit of the Kangaroo mouse, which is on the endangered species list.
