Real Surf Shop: Helping Teenage Surfers Get Chicks Since 2003

This surf shop deals in custom-made surfboards and surfboard repair.

If you want a real, locally made surf board, put on your trunks and head down to . Located at 1101 S. Coast Highway, Real Surf Shop is owned and operated by a real surf board shaper and specializes in custom boards, surf board rental, repair, supplies and water accessories.

"We just want to have fun and sell fun to customers." said Shawn Ambrose, the shop's owner and board maker. "Interesting people are always walking through the door."

Ambrose's shop is lined with new, used and custom surf boards, and he knows every single one of them. Customers come in unsure of what to buy, and he knows the exact board they should leave with.

"This is the third time I've been here," said Tyler Beldt, 17. "I wanted to start surfing because I saw it on TV, and it's a great way to catch the girls."

Beldt came into the store to upgrade his board; after surfing for awhile he decided to change it up.

His father, Brian Beldt, came to Real Surf Shop to help out the local economy. "We like smaller local shops."

Ambrose has owned the shop for eight years. Being a board builder makes his expertise unique. He started the shop because he was tired of bigger shops that didn't know how to help you fix a board and wanted to open a shop that specialized in helping surfers.

"His boards are the best boards I've ever had," said Cory Rojas. "This guy's got style and craftsmanship."

Ambrose makes about 400 custom boards a year. On an average it takes about 12 weeks for a custom order. Send him an email for more information at realsurfshop@gmail.com, ambrosesurfboards@gmail.com or call at 760-754-0670
