Here are the top five stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. A Michelin-recognized barbecue restaurant is heading to Oceanside. After operating as a wildly successful pop-up at regional Southern California breweries, Heritage Barbecue established its first restaurant in San Juan Capistrano in 2020, which was named one of "America's Best New BBQ Spots" by Food & Wine Magazine and earned Bib Gourmand status in the 2021 Michelin Guide. Owners Brenda and Daniel Castillo have relocated to Oceanside where the couple will be opening a 10,000-square-foot restaurant and brewery that will specifically design beers to pair with its award-winning barbecue. (Eater San Diego)
  2. San Diego County leaders reacted Friday with alarm and despair to the Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade. Rep. Mike Levin, a Democrat who represents the coastal North County and southern Orange County, posted a video of himself protesting in front of the Supreme Court Friday. "This decision is devastating. The lives of women everywhere are now at risk because of right-wing justices forced on the American people by Mitch McConnell, Trump and their allies," Levin said. "The American people must now vote like your most basic rights are at stake, because they are." (San Diego Patch)
  3. A new golfer ventured onto the grounds of a Carlsbad golf course Thursday, and she wasn't adhering to the dress code. That's because she was a sea lion. A pregnant sea lion shocked golfers and staff at Carlsbad's Omni La Costa Resort & Spa by wandering right onto the course. Video shows the sea lion waddling confidently across the course, which is located nearly three miles from the ocean. (Carlsbad Patch)
  4. Patch has rounded up fun, interesting and entertaining events throughout Southern California for the weekend — from the southernmost tip of San Diego, through Orange and Riverside counties, to the beaches and valleys in Los Angeles. Whether you opt for an activity close to home, a mini day trip or a virtual event, see what's slated this weekend. (Encinitas Patch)
  5. Stone Brewing, San Diego's largest and best known craft brewery, will be acquired by Japan's Sapporo. The two brewers said the "east-meets-west" merger would combine "Japanese artistry" with "American craft brewing tradition." The deal is reportedly worth $165 million. Sapporo, founded in 1879, will produce its beer alongside Stone's brands in Escondido and Richmond, VA and invest in those facilities to double output. Stone will continue to operate its seven Tap Rooms, including the Oceanside location, with existing branding, management and workforce under the Sapporo umbrella. (Times of San Diego)
