Sock-&-Shoe Donation Drive Underway At Tri-City Hospital Centers
After a nurse once gave a patient the shoes off her own feet so the person could be discharged, the foundation hosts the annual collection.
OCEANSIDE, CA – Donations of new shoes and socks are being accepted for hospital pateints at bins set up in North County through March 30 courtesy of the Tri-City Hospital Foundation.
“New shoes and socks make an immediate and tangible difference in many of our patients’ lives,” said Jennifer Paroly, executive director of Tri-City Hospital Foundation.
Donation bins can be found in the main lobbies of Tri-City Medical Center at 4002 Vista Way in Oceanside and Tri-City Wellness Center at 6250 El Camino Real in Carlsbad. Cash donations are also welcome online at tricityhospitalfoundation.org/socks-shoes-drive.

This is Tri-City Hospital Foundation’s third annual shoe drive, and is inspired by Tri-City Medical Center nurse Imelda Browning, who once gave a patient the shoes off her own feet so the patient could be safely discharged, as the medical center has a policy of not releasing patients without proper foot protection.
Patients often come to the hospital in their pajamas or without proper footwear and may have no family members to bring them changes of clothes when it is time for them to go home, organizers said. The shoe drive contributes to an inventory of new shoes and socks that can be given to patients in need throughout the year.
