Theatre Arts West @ Oceanside Civic Center Library
Theatre Arts West and Oceanside Civic Center Library Bring Wendy Wasserstein's "Third" to the Stage March 7th at 5:00 p.m.

Hot on the heels of Theatre Arts West’s production of Love Letters at The Brooks, the company will produce the first of its Readers Theatre Series in collaboration with the Civic Center Library.
Using the library’s monthly “celebration” guidelines, the theatre is producing Wendy Wasserstein’s final play, Third, in honor of Women’s History Month. Ms. Wasserstein broke through the shatter-proof glass ceiling as a female playwright with her 1989 Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning The Heidi Chronicles (which is being given a re-mount on Broadway starring Elizabeth Moss as of this writing).
What makes Third an important experience is that it was written nearly twenty years after The Heidi Chronicles and produced a year before Ms. Wasserstein’s death. The play is an aching, “Not far,” response to Heidi’s battle cry, “Women, where are we going?” as we follow the unraveling of steely, self-confident, tenured, professor Laurie Jameson who invites her new crop of students to challenge her. Woodson Bull the Third does, and changes the course of their lives.
