Today In History: Martin Luther King Jr. Was Killed
April 4th, 2021 marks the 53rd anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
OCEANSIDE, CA — On this day in 1968, we lost an American icon. Martin Luther King Jr. was killed by James Earl Ray in Memphis, TN. Dr. King advanced civil rights through nonviolence and civil disobedience, inspired by his Christian beliefs and the nonviolent activism of Mahatma Gandhi.
Voting rights, desegregation, bus boycotts and anti-war protests were hallmarks of his stand for basic human rights. Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to receive the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of thirty-five.
There is little that any of us can say that would improve upon the words spoken by Dr. King in his "I Have A Dream"speech. Consider taking a moment to honor the memory of his contribution to humanity that continues to inspire new generations.
