- Mark Your Calendars for IRONMAN, Into The Woods, Annual Easter Egg Hunt, Earth Day Celebration and more happening around Oceanside in April. Kicking off the month is one of the biggest sporting events of the year. IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside gets underway on Thursday and culminates on Saturday when thousands will challenge themselves on the 21st anniversary of the popular competition. - Three years in the making, Hangar 76 opens to the public Friday, April 1 with a weekend celebration that will include live music, food trucks, raffles, and more. Purchased and developed by Carruth Cellars, the 17,500-square-foot Oceanside warehouse has been transformed into a multi-use venue that will serve as the new production hub and fourth tasting room for the local winery as well as the first brewing facility and taproom for Tipping Pint Brewing Co. - A California man convicted of brutally murdering his girlfriend will remain behind bars after pushing for parole. On October 16, 2005, 25-year-old Nicole Sinkule was killed in her sleep in her Oceanside apartment. Sinkule's boyfriend, Eric Nathaniel Marum, was charged and convicted for her death, and sentenced to serve 16 years to life for second-degree murder. Shortly after the Sinkule's family appeared on "Crime Stories with Nancy Grace" earlier this month, California Governor Gavin Newsom rejected Marum's parole request. (CrimeOnline)
- San Diego County broke its 35-day streak of gas increases on Wednesday as the average price for regular gasoline fell by one cent, according to AAA. The price for a gallon of regular gas dropped from $6.01 to $6 on Wednesday. The decrease is the largest drop since Dec. 1, when the average prices dropped nine-tenths of a cent. Despite the decrease, the average price is 4 cents more than one week ago, $1.61 more than one month ago and $2.059 greater than one year ago. (San Diego Patch)
- California panel OKs reparations limit for slave descendants. California's first-in-the-nation task force on reparations has decided to limit state compensation to the descendants of free and enslaved Black people who were in the U.S. in the 19th century, narrowly rejecting a proposal to include all Black people regardless of lineage. (Associated Press)
