US Coast Guard Band Cancels Concert. Vista USD Band Showcase Forges Ahead

Due to the current funding pause with the Department of Homeland Security, the US Coast Guard Band concert scheduled for Thursday, March 19th, has been cancelled.

In its place, student musicians in the Vista Unified School District will present the Vista Unified Band Showcase, a full concert at Vista’s Moonlight Amphitheatre.

The Rancho Buena Vista High School Wind Ensemble was slated to perform with the US Coast Guard Band, and will be joined by the Vista High School Wind Ensemble and the Madison Middle School Mustang Band.

The free concert will take place at the Moonlight Amphitheatre in Vista, CA, at 7:00 PM.

Vista Unified School District was the sponsor of the Coast Guard Band concert, providing the RBV ensemble a unique opportunity to share the stage with the acclaimed military band.

Pivot to Showcase Local Talent
“We are, of course, disappointed that we will not be able to host and share a stage with the world-class US Coast Guard Band,“ says Rancho Buena Vista Band Director Eric Weirather.

“But it speaks volumes to the breadth and depth of musical talent in our district that we have several groups able to step into this space and present an excellent program for the community.”

The expanded lineup of VUSD groups provides more students with an opportunity to perform at the Moonlight. “We have Arts Under The Stars, a district-wide, four-night festival of arts from across the district coming up in April,” says Weirather.

“But due to time and space constraints, most of the bands presented are smaller jazz bands, and the concert bands do not have the chance to play a stage like The Moonlight. This provides that opportunity, and we are grateful that the groups from Vista High and Madison Middle School are able to perform.”
