Anyone who was at those places during those times was urged to check to see if they were infected. They should also monitor themselves for fever or rash from a week to three weeks after the exposure and if the symptoms develop they should stay home and call a doctor immediately for what to do next.

If you suspect you're infected call a doctor before going to a health care provider.

"Measles is highly contagious," said Dr. Anissa Davis, deputy county health officer. "Everyone 12 months and older should receive two doses of MMR vaccine (measles, mumps and rubella). Infants less than a year old who are traveling internationally should receive one dose of MMR vaccine.

"Adults and others who are not immune remain at risk, especially as outbreaks continue across the country and worldwide."

The best protection is vaccination, officials said.

Officials have documented 2,566 confirmed measles cases nationally this year, the highest case count since measles was declared eliminated in the United States in 2000.
