SANTA ANA, CA — Police sought the public's help this week in identifying a woman accused of intentionally running over a puppy with her car in Orange County.
Santa Ana police responded to the scene in the 900 block of West Park Lane on Sept. 8 after receiving a report of a dead black-and-white male pit bull mix that had been run over.
"A nearby resident reported seeing a minivan parked near the location and believed the female driver intentionally ran over the puppy," police said in a statement.
According to the Santa Ana Police Department, video shows a woman removing the puppy from a blue or green Honda Odyssey at about 9:15 a.m. and placing it under the vehicle on 926 W. Park Ln.
The woman then put dog food near the driver's door and slowly drove forward as the puppy approached the food, police said.
According to police, "the puppy was then run over by the rear driver's side tire, and the vehicle remained stopped on top of the puppy for approximately 15 seconds before leaving northbound on Lowell Street."
The puppy died as a result of his injuries, police said.
Video of the incident was posted to social media Wednesday by the department in an effort to identify the woman.
Residents with information about the woman's identity or this vehicle's whereabouts is asked to contact the Santa Ana Police Department at 714-245-8378.
