The Festival of Arts and Pageant of the Masters, in partnership with the Laguna Beach Arts Commission and the City of Laguna Beach, will install three monumental chess sculptures from the Pageant’s celebrated “Indian Chess Set” on the front lawn of Laguna Beach City Hall for public display through July 24, 2026.
The immersive installation includes a 13-foot King alongside oversized Bishop and Knight sculptures originally created for the 2025 Pageant of the Masters and inspired by a 19th-century ivory chess set from the Norton Simon Museum. Laguna Beach Mayor Mark Orgill will participate in a public procession as the giant sculptures make their move from the Festival grounds to City Hall beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, May 29.
Guests are encouraged to visit the installation throughout the summer, take photos, and tag @FestivalPageant and @LagunaBeachCulturalArts on social media for a chance to win a four-pack of tickets to the 2026 Pageant of the Masters. Contest runs May 29 – June 30, 2026.
The installation celebrates the upcoming 2026 Pageant of the Masters production, The Greatest of All Time (G.O.A.T.), running July 9 – September 4, 2026.

About the Exhibition
The <a href="https://www.aamuseumgp.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Asian American Museum at Great Park</a>&nbsp;recently hosted a Juried Photo Art Contest to celebrate the storied images of Asian American life, creating a visual that highlights our vibrant Southern California Community.
Just as a mosaic is composed of countless unique pieces that, together, create a singular work of art, so too is our Asian American experience. Our identity is not a monolith, but a fluid diverse, multiracial, multigenerational spectrum.
This juried photography exhibition showcases the diverse Asian American experience through the lenses of both professional and amateur photographers. Our distinguished judges included professional photographers, artists, photo educators, and members of the media.
This exhibition celebrates the mosaic of Asian American identity - fluid, diverse, multiracial, and multigenerational. Join us in witnessing how photographers interpret and capture the vibrancy of the Southern California community.
The exhibition will be on display at the Bowers Museum in the John M. Lee Court from May 20 - 28 and will feature winning photographs and selected submissions.
Admission is free and open to the public.

Burt Bacharach is an American composer, songwriter, record producer, and pianist who is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential figures of 20th-century popular music. He composed hundreds of pop songs, many in collaboration with lyricist Hal David. His 52 top 40 hits including "This Guy's in Love with You”, &amp; "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head”, &amp; "(They Long to Be) Close to You”, “The Look of Love” and “What the World Needs Now is Love.” Bacharach and David also wrote the score for the 1968 musical Promises, Promises, which included "I'll Never Fall in Love Again". Bring a girlfriend, mother, or daughter.
The raised fist has represented women’s solidarity and progress for generations. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll stitch your own. Join Ross Anna and Stephanie Warner for three hours of fabric appliqué, great company, and genuine creativity as you build a one-of-a-kind resistance fist patch from a curated selection of fabrics. Whether you wear it, frame it, or sew it onto the back of a denim jacket, you’ll leave with a finished 6″×9.5″ piece that is uniquely yours.
Guided step by step through the appliqué technique, you’ll choose your fabrics, build your patch, and spend a meaningful few hours in a room of women who get it. All materials, tools, and snacks are provided, just bring your sewing machine and scissors.
