Where Coronavirus Cases Are In OC: 1,676 Test Positive, 33 Deaths

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — One more Orange County resident has died, Monday, as a result of the coronavirus, the 14th death in less than one week. The number of hospitalized patients has declined, according to a report from the Orange County Health Care Agency. A total of 33 people have died as a result of the virus, they say.

On Monday, hospitals reported 41 more cases of the virus, with 128 total residents hospitalized. Of those, 42 people were listed as being treated in Intensive Care Units. The number of hospitalized patients in Orange County is comparatively low, despite a fluctuation of cases, Orange County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Michelle Steel said in an afternoon briefing.

After one month of shutdown across the county, state and nation, a total of 1,676 Orange County residents have tested positive for coronavirus. (Note: Only 22 of 24 area hospitals reported in with data on Monday.)

There have been 18,766 residents tested for the virus, and there are currently enough kits to test 2,491 more specimens. Since Tuesday, an additional 772 more county residents received tests for the disease.

  • 30 people are under 18 years old;
  • 128 people are between 18-24;
  • 271 people are between 25-34;
  • 239 people are between 35-44;
  • 652 people are between 45-64;
  • 356 people are 65 or older.

Men make up over half of the county's cases, and over half of those who have succumbed to COVID-19.

Of the deaths:

  • 2 were 25 to 34 years old,
  • 1 was 35 to 44,
  • 11 were 45 to 64,
  • 19 were 65 or older.

Of the deceased, 20 were men and 13 were women, OC Health Care reported. It was not known if the deceased had underlying health conditions as of this report.

The newly collected data of ethnicity shows that of those who have died in Orange County:

  • 11 were Asian
  • 8 were white
  • 9 were Latino
  • 2 was black or African American
  • 2 were not classified

Orange County's largest cities have the largest total infected residents, according to reports. Anaheim has the most COVID-19 cases in the county with 207, followed by Santa Ana with 166 and Irvine with 118. Huntington Beach has 138. Newport Beach's total of infected residents has dropped to 89, as of Monday.

A coronavirus outbreak at a skilled nursing facility in Anaheim was reported over the weekend. A total of 15 patients at the Anaheim Healthcare Center tested positive for the virus. That outbreak pushed Anaheim's total cases of coronavirus to over 200 people.

After hundreds gathered to protest stay-at-home restrictions over the weekend, supervisors Steel and Supervisor Don Wagner say they are studying ways to lift some quarantine restrictions. "What you're seeing is a number of people around the county asking, 'How do we get (Orange County) back open for business?'" Wagner said in the Monday's briefing. "We are trying to provide those answers.

With summer-like weather in this week's forecast, Orange County CEO is concerned that residents will once again flock to area beaches. Kim says his staff has seen widespread violations of social distancing at beaches and parks. If large crowds gather in those locations, "we may need to take additional steps, which could include closure of those park facilities," he said.
