ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Nutmeg, the feral cat who patrolled Disney California Adventure for any sign of non-animated mice, passed away after years as a fan-favorite for park pass holders, Disneyland News Today reported.

The beloved feline was known for hanging out at the park's Magic Key Terrace for years. She was described as a friendly cat who typically wandered down from Grizzly Peak to interact with patrons at the outdoor patio bar.

“Nutmeg was one of Disneyland Resort’s feral cats, tasked with keeping the rat population down around the parks and ensuring the only rodents guests see are Mickey and Minnie Mouse,” according to WDW News Today. “Nutmeg roamed the park quite often, but had an affinity for the Magic Key Terrace lounge at Disney California Adventure.”

According to WDW News Today, feral cats have become a staple of Disneyland's after-hours operation and are reportedly well-cared for, with Disney providing stations for feeding, medical care and neutering services.

Nutmeg, however, was especially loved among the cats — so loved that the drink masters at the Magic Key Terrace developed a boozy cocktail in the feline's name, and Disney Imagineers drew design inspiration from Nutmeg — and other cats — for the annual passholder hideaway, the Orange County Register reported.
