Explosion At Cal State Fullerton Campus Evacuates Classrooms
A student experiment gone awry caused an explosion on the Cal State Fullerton campus.

FULLERTON, CA— A Cal State Fullerton student student suffered minor burns during an experiment that went awry on the state college campus Friday, forcing the evacuation of two classrooms.
The student -- taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange for evaluation -- was doing an experiment at about 12:35 p.m. with potassium, iron oxide and sugar when he was burned in a flash fire, Fullerton Fire Division Chief Kathy Schaefer said.
Smoke from the fire blew back into the classrooms, which brought the evacuations that still were in effect as of 2:05 p.m., authorities said.
