Five Hospitalized After Fentanyl ODs At Orange County Park

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Five people were hospitalized after they were found unresponsive in an Orange County park. Police said they were in stable condition and had possibly taken the narcotic, fentanyl, police said.

Authorities closed Sigler Park in Westminster at 7200 Plaza Street and deployed as hazmat team to the area for cleanup, according to the Westminster Police Department.

Officers were dispatched around 5:55 p.m. Saturday to the park after reports of several people down near the restrooms. After the group was found unconscious, the park was evacuated.

"Officers deployed Narcan as all subjects exhibited signs of opioid or possible fentanyl overdose," according to Sgt. Alan Aoki of the Westminster Police Department. "Due to the possible fentanyl involvement, Sigler Park was evacuated and blocked off during the response."

A hazardous materials team and the staff from the Orange County Health Care Agency were sent in to help with the cleanup, Aoki said.

"It appears to that this is an isolated incident, and the public is not in danger," he said. "The circumstances of the possible fentanyl exposure are under investigation."

No other injuries were reported.
