Fullerton Fire Burns 11 Acres, Flare Gun To Blame?

A choking fire in Fullerton overnight is 100 percent contained. Investigators are researching whether the Castlewood Fire began with arson.

FULLERTON, CA —Orange County woke to smoke-filled air, Thursday after a night heavy with wind and wildfire. Firefighters worked through the night to ensure no homes were lost and no injuries were sustained in the event. Arson investigators, still researching the cause of the blaze, found a "flare gun" near the fire's origin, Fullerton Police Lt. Jon Radus reported. Research is being conducted to determine whether the fire was intentionally set.

The Castlewood Fire, sparked Wednesday afternoon in Fullerton, leading to evacuations of multiple residents in the area of Gilbert and Castlewood. The blaze was fully contained as of 10:30 p.m., officials say.

Multiple agencies worked the Castlewood blaze while homes in the area were evacuated to make way for firefighters. Residents fled the wind-driven fire, many on foot, Fullerton Police said.

The Fullerton Community Center was opened to care for those displaced by the evacuations.

All residents were allowed to return to sleep in their beds, with all evacuation orders lifted by containment time.
