Anaheim and Irvine Medical Centers Recognized for Quality and Patient Safety

The annual "Top Hospital" List by The Leapfrog Group is an Exclusive Group of U.S. Hospitals Based on Performance on the Highest Known Standards for Quality and Patient Safety

Highlighting their nationally recognized achievements in patient safety and quality, seven Kaiser Permanente Southern California hospitals, including Anaheim and Irvine Medical Centers, have been named as Top Hospitals in the United States in the teaching category by The Leapfrog Group.

The Leapfrog Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive. The Top Hospital designation is awarded by The Leapfrog Group, a national watchdog organization of employers and other purchasers focused on health care safety and quality.

“Kaiser Permanente Southern California’s outstanding performance is a testament to our integrated model, which ensures the highest quality of health care and service to our 4.6 million members,” said Julie Miller-Phipps, president, Kaiser Permanente Southern California, Health Plan and Hospitals. “It’s also the result of the expert medical care delivered with compassion by our physicians, nurses and staff each and every day.”

The annual "Top Hospital" list is an exclusive group of U.S. medical centers. While nearly 2,100 hospitals nationally completed the Leapfrog survey and were considered for the recognition, only 118 (5.6%) were named "Top Hospitals."

To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, hospitals must rank top among peers in the 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which assesses hospital performance on the highest known standards for quality and patient safety, and achieve top performance in its category.

Performance across many areas of hospital care is also considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, practices for safer surgery, maternity care and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors. The rigorous standards are defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology.
