Latest Coronavirus Information In Orange County: 84 Total Deaths

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — On a day that the Thunderbirds flew in formation over Orange County, the death toll rose to 84, officials say. On Friday, four more people died due to the coronavirus related disease, COVID-19. Another 158 people fell ill to the virus, Friday, bringing the cumulative total of COVID-19 diagnoses in the region to 4,125.

The Orange County Health Care Agency also reported that the number of hospitalized patients dropped from 227 on Thursday to 212 on Friday, with intensive care unit patients dipping from 79 to 78.

Thursday was the highest number of cases reported in a single day, with 229, since the pandemic began.

Officials said it appears that most of the cases are coming out of outbreaks at skilled nursing facilities and because of ramped-up testing at those locations and in the county's jails, not from community spread elsewhere such as on the recently reopened beaches.

On Friday, 212 people tested positive for the virus.

The total number of people in the county tested for the virus now stands at 66,267, with 1,017 tests reported Friday. With 3.2 million residents, there are far more people to be tested than have already been tested.

The cumulative COVID-19 deaths by age:

• 2 were between 25-34
• 4 were between 35-44
• 8 were between 45-54
• 11 were between 55-64
• 13 were between 65-74
• 26 were between 75-84
• 20 were 85 and older
