ANAHEIM, CA — The man killed Tuesday by Anaheim police less than a mile from Disneyland was wanted for sexual assault and armed with a large knife, according to authorities.
Officers attempted to arrest Luis Munoz, 29, of Anaheim, around 1 p.m. in the 300 block of West Orangewood Avenue, police said. Munoz, who was wanted for felony sexual assault, ran away and officers chased him to the intersection of Orangewood Avenue and Harbor Boulevard, according to police, where a confrontation occurred between Munoz and several officers.
Munoz was struck at least once by police gunfire and, despite receiving treatment from first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said, adding no officers were injured. A large knife believed to have belonged to Munoz was recovered in the area, according to police.

Munoz was shot in the parking lot of an ARCO gas station, where his body remained for hours after the incident, KABC reported.
"I didn't expect it," Peter Wortley, who is from New Zealand but had come to Anaheim to visit Disneyland with his family, told KABC. "It's really not something we see in New Zealand at all. Pretty sad, really. There's a guy lying dead over there. Feel sorry for his family. But it's just crazy to see it in Anaheim, in the resort area."
